ae416c045a Add native CLI shims for PowerToys command-line tools (#48631)
## Summary of the Pull Request

Adds a native C++ multi-call shim that exposes existing PowerToys CLIs
through `PATH`. The shims are installed under the PowerToys `bin`
subfolder and follow the `PowerToys.<ModuleName>.CLI.exe` naming
convention. The launcher preserves the raw argument tail, shares the
caller's console, and returns the target process exit code.

| PATH-visible command | Target executable |
| --- | --- |
| `PowerToys.FancyZones.CLI.exe` | `FancyZonesCLI.exe` |
| `PowerToys.ImageResizer.CLI.exe` |
`WinUI3Apps/PowerToys.ImageResizerCLI.exe` |
| `PowerToys.FileLocksmith.CLI.exe` | `FileLocksmithCLI.exe` |
| `PowerToys.PowerDisplay.CLI.exe` |
`WinUI3Apps/PowerToys.PowerDisplay.Cli.exe` |

- [x] **Communication:** Discussed with core contributors in this PR
- [x] **Tests:** Added/updated and all pass
- [ ] **Localization:** CLI diagnostic messages are not localized
- [x] **Dev docs:** Updated CLI naming and installation conventions
- [x] **New binaries:** Added on the required places
  - [x] Signing JSON
  - [x] WiX installer entries
- [x] CI builds through `PowerToys.slnx`; no dedicated YML step is
required

target from the invoked shim filename.
- Installs PATH-visible shims under `PowerToys\bin`.
- Keeps the existing module CLI binaries and their deployment locations
unchanged.
- Rejects the previous unsuffixed and `*cli` command aliases.

## Validation Steps Performed

- Built `tools/CliShim.UnitTests/CliShim.UnitTests.vcxproj` in
`Release|x64`: 0 warnings, 0 errors.
- Ran `CliShim.UnitTests.dll` with `vstest.console.exe`: 5/5 tests
passed.
- Verified the CLI manifest, WiX command names, and `bin` installation
directory are synchronized.
- Ran `git diff --check`.

558e633c59 Add preview release versioning and update channel support (#49414)
## Summary
- Publish scheduled `main` builds as GitHub prereleases while keeping
manual `main` runs as preview validation builds.
- Add an opt-in Settings switch for prerelease update checks; stable
updates remain the default.
- Use one MSI-safe version across bundles, MSI packages, binaries,
symbols, and package manifests.
- Prevent preview releases from triggering Microsoft Store, WinGet, or
public-symbol publication.
- Label preview builds explicitly in Settings, update notifications, and
What's New.

## Build intent

| Source | Trigger | Intent |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `main` | Scheduled | Publish a preview release |
| `main` | Manual | Validate a preview build without publishing |
| `stable` | Manual | Produce a stable release |
| Other branches | Any supported trigger | Produce a private validation
build |

## MSI-safe release versioning

Windows Installer compares only `major.minor.build` and ignores the
fourth version component. Preview and stable release builds therefore
use:

```text
major.minor.YDDDB.0
```

- `Y`: zero-based number of calendar years since `ReleaseTrainEpoch`.
- `DDD`: three-position calendar day of year.
- `B`: daily release sequence `1-9`.
- The fourth component is always `0`.

With `ReleaseTrainVersion=0.100` and `ReleaseTrainEpoch=2026-01-01`:

```text
0.100.2111.0   = July 30, 2026, release build 1
0.100.3659.0   = December 31, 2026, release build 9
0.100.10011.0  = January 1, 2027, release build 1
```

The allocator formats `DDD` as exactly three digits before converting
the MSI component to its numeric representation. Leading zeros may not
be displayed because Windows version components are numeric; decoding
remains positional:

```text
B   = component % 10
DDD = (component / 10) % 1000
Y   = component / 10000
```

`ReleaseTrainVersion` and `ReleaseTrainEpoch` are checked in under
`src/Version.props`. The epoch remains January 1 of the active epoch
year and advances on the first release-train minor change in a new year.

## Daily release counter

Azure DevOps persists the daily sequence server-side using a counter
keyed as `release-YYYYMMDD`.

- `main` and `stable` share the same daily counter.
- Other branches do not evaluate or consume the release counter.
- Failed or canceled `main`/`stable` runs may leave gaps.
- The build fails when the daily sequence exceeds `9`.
- The counter date and encoded `YDDD` date both use
`pipeline.startTime`.

Private branches retain independent `0.0.<extended-day><NN>.0`
validation versions.

## Update behavior
- Stable users continue to query GitHub's stable latest-release path.
- Users who explicitly enable preview updates can select newer GitHub
prereleases.
- Preview releases and notifications are labeled as PowerToys Preview.
- What's New separates preview entries from stable release history and
hides previews by default.

## Validation
- 17 Pester tests cover `main`, `stable`, private branches, year
rollover, epoch reset, monotonicity, override validation, sequence
limits, and date alignment.
- Version propagation verified `0.100.2111.0` in `Version.props` and all
affected AppX/MSIX manifests.
- Azure DevOps pipeline dry-runs succeeded for both `refs/heads/main`
and `refs/heads/stable`.
- The affected native version project builds successfully.
- PR CI is green for x64, ARM64, Command Palette SDK, dependency review,
telemetry detection, and CLA.

## Remaining end-to-end checks
- Install two locally or officially produced installers with consecutive
MSI-visible `YDDDB` versions and verify the upgrade preserves binaries,
package registrations, hardlinks, and shell integrations.
- On the first natural post-merge `main` or `stable` run, verify the
production counter value and resolved version in the release logs.
## Local GPO verification

Validated locally with the signed `v0.100.2171` build from Azure DevOps
build
[153961073](https://microsoft.visualstudio.com/Dart/_build/results?buildId=153961073).
These checks cover the administrative-template integration and Settings
behavior.

### Policy enabled: preview updates are disabled

With `PreviewUpdatesDisabled=1`, **Include prerelease updates** is
forced off and locked, and Settings displays the
managed-by-your-organization notice.

### Policy removed: the user preference is preserved

After removing `PreviewUpdatesDisabled` and restarting PowerToys, the
previously selected preview-update preference is restored and editable.
The policy suppresses the preference without overwriting it.

### Group Policy Editor

After importing the updated ADMX/ADML templates, **Disable preview build
updates** appears under **Microsoft PowerToys > Installer and Updates**.
The policy dialog documents that **Enabled** blocks preview updates,
while **Disabled** or **Not Configured** leaves the choice available to
the user.

18efa0559c Introduce new utility PowerDisplay to control your monitor settings (#42642)
<!-- Enter a brief description/summary of your PR here. What does it
fix/what does it change/how was it tested (even manually, if necessary)?
-->
## Summary of the Pull Request
Introduce a new PowerToys' module PowerDisplay to let user can control
their monitor settings without touching monitor's button.

Support feature list:
Common:
1. Profiles support
2. Integration with LightSwitch (auto switch profile when theme change)
3. TrayIcon
4. Save and restore settings when startup
5. Shortcut
6. Rotation
7. GPO support
8. Auto re-discovery monitor when plugging and unplugging monitors.
9. Identify Monitors
10. Quick profile switch

Especially for DDC/CI monitor:
1. Brightness
2. Contrast
3. Volume
4. Color temperature (preset profile)
5. Input source
6. Power State (poweroff)

Design doc:
https://github.com/microsoft/PowerToys/blob/yuleng/display/pr/3/doc/devdocs/modules/powerdisplay/design.md

AOT compatibility:
I designed this module for AOT from the start, so I'm pretty sure at
least 95% of it is AOT compatible. But unfortunately, PowerToys still
have a AOT blocker to block this module publish with AOT.

Currently PowerToys will check the .net file version (file version not
lib version) to avoid crash. So, all modules should reference Common.UI
or add UseWPF to avoid overwrite the .net file with different version
(which may cause crash).

Todo:
- [ ] BugBash
- [ ] Icon
- [ ] IdentifyWindow UI improvement

63da56fae0 Remove WiX v3 infrastructure and migrate exclusively to WiX v5 (#41975)
## Summary:

This pull request refactors the installer build pipeline to simplify and
modernize the process, focusing exclusively on the WiX 5 (VNext)
installer and removing legacy WiX 3 support. It eliminates the use of
the `installerSuffix` parameter and related logic, removes the legacy
installer build steps and scripts, and updates documentation to reflect
the new architecture. The changes streamline the pipeline, reduce
complexity, and ensure only the latest installer is built and signed.

Pipeline and build system simplification:

* Removed the `installerSuffix` parameter and all related logic from
pipeline templates and YAML files, including file naming, build steps,
and hash calculation scripts.
* Removed legacy WiX 3 installer build steps and the associated script
`installWiX.ps1`, focusing exclusively on WiX 5 (VNext) installer
builds.

Installer signing and build process updates:

* Updated `.pipelines/ESRPSigning_installer.json` to remove signing
configuration for the legacy `PowerToysSetupCustomActions.dll`, ensuring
only the VNext DLL is signed.

Documentation updates:

* Updated `doc/devdocs/core/installer.md` to remove references to WiX 3,
clarify the installer architecture as WiX 5 only, and describe the new
build process.

## CheckList:
- [ ] Should Build successfully and produce installer for both per user
and per machine
- [ ] Should install without problem

## Detailed Description of the Pull Request / Additional comments

### Known bugs:
- Default settings not saving correctly when switching modes
- Issue: Sometimes when you switch from one mode to another, they are
supposed to update with new defaults but sometimes this fails for the
second variable. Potentially has to do with accessing the settings file
while another chunk of code is still updating.
- Sometimes the system looks "glitched" when switching themes

### To do:
- [x] OOBE page and assets
- [x] Logic to disable the chart when no location has been selected
- [x] Localization

### How to and what to test
Grab the latest installer from the pipeline below for your architecture
and install PowerToys from there.
- Toggle theme shortcutSystem only, Apps only, Both system and apps
selected
- Does changing the values on the settings page update the settings
file? %LOCALAPPDATA%/Microsoft/PowerToys/LightSwitch/settings.json

64dc8e0f27 [Installer] Upgrade the installer from WiX3 to WiX5 (#40877)
<!-- Enter a brief description/summary of your PR here. What does it
fix/what does it change/how was it tested (even manually, if necessary)?
-->
## Summary of the Pull Request
Background: The current PowerToys installer is built using Wix3, which
has now been deprecated. To improve security, service quality, and
community support, we’re upgrading the installer to Wix5.

Implementation:
Created Wix5-based projects(PowerToysSetupVext and
PowerToysSetupCustomActionsVNext) within the installer while retaining
the existing Wix3 project. Both versions are built to generate separate
installation packages. The Wix3-related code will be removed after
successful release testing confirms no issues.

Special case:
Wix5 has removed the property for 'ShowFilesInUse'. Now, whenever a file
is in use during installation, a FilesInUse pop-upwill automatically
appear asking for the next step. To ensure this doesn't interfere with
scenarios that require silent installation (e.g. Winget method), we’ve
handled it using the bafunction approach.
